About Dr. Andrew Newman’s Practice

Our Respiratory Medicine, Undersea and Sports Medicine office provides state-of-the-art care in a small, intimate, caring practice. As an independent medical practitioner, I am able to take the time to listen to your concerns and work together with you to help solve medical problems and keep you in the best possible health.

To deliver the best care possible to patients, I believe it is essential that a physician:

  • Is concerned about his/her patients as people, not just as an illness.
  • Has the latest technological equipment to diagnose and treat problems.
  • Is up to date with the most recent medical knowledge and has access to and uses the computerized databases that augment and optimize diagnosis and treatment.

Our office has the latest pulmonary function testing equipment, ultrasound systems, and endoscopes. To ensure the best quality tests, resulting in the most useful information, I preform all of the testing myself, rather than, as is the case at most clinics and hospitals, use a technician. I have access to all point-of-care computerized medical programs, including UpToDate, MD Consult, Epocrates, Dynamed, and Medline Plus, and teach and support other physicians in their use, both at Stanford University, as well as in Micronesia, as part of my Ocean Medicine Foundation work (www.oceanmedicine.org).

In my work with diving medicine and sports medicine patients, I care for a wide range of people, from weekend warriors to Olympic and professional athletes. Because of my focus on fitness and optimal health, I also am able to design exercise and rehabilitation programs for patients with significant lung disease and shortness of breath. Finally, and maybe most importantly, I value each patient as a person and want to focus on helping them achieve optimal health and functioning.
